The Oman Football Association has cited logistical obstacles for the cancellation of their friendly match against African side, Niger.

The Reds were supposed to lock horns with Niger on Monday March 3, 2025 as part of preparation ahead of the upcoming international break.

Niger will take on Morocco and Eritrea in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers slated for this month.

Speaking to Oman Sports Channel, Khalid Al Rawas, who is the manager of the Omani national team disclosed circumstances beyond control led to the cancellation of the match.

Meanwhile, Oman focus is on improving performance and ensuring victory in the upcoming rounds of the qualifiers to ensure qualification.

Oman is expected to take on the Sudan national team in an international friendly game on March 13, 2025.

Meanwhile, a statement from Niger reads:

“For its part, the Niger Football Federation announced in an official statement that the decision to cancel the match was related to the flight to the Sultanate of Oman, without giving further details.

The statement added that joint efforts were made by both parties to overcome these circumstances, “but unfortunately they were not crowned with success.”

It added: “If circumstances permit, the match may be rescheduled for another time.”

It is noteworthy that the match was scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, as part of the Omani national team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Omani national team continued its training in an internal camp under the leadership of national coach Rashid Jaber, to enhance its readiness for the World Cup qualifiers in March against the South Korean and Kuwaiti national team”
