Iñaki Williams has come to the defence of his younger brother Nico Williams, as the Athletic Bilbao winger endures a difficult season following his standout performances at Euro 2024.
The Ghanaian striker dismissed criticism surrounding his brother’s decision to remain at the Basque club, having turned down an offer from FC Barcelona last summer.
The move sparked divided opinions, with some suggesting the 22-year-old should have taken the opportunity to join a bigger club.
“Many people think he made a mistake, but in reality, these decisions are never easy, especially when you are young and have to manage everything yourself,” Iñaki told GOL.
Nico’s season has been further complicated by injury setbacks, which have hindered his form and consistency.
The Spain international recently acknowledged in a press conference that the pressure of expectations had affected him but expressed determination to focus on his growth.
Despite the challenges, Iñaki remains confident in his brother’s potential, urging critics to show patience as the young winger works to overcome his current difficulties.
Nico Williams remains an integral part of Athletic Bilbao’s squad, with hopes that his resilience will see him return to his best form in the near future.
