Morocco’s women’s national team was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Haiti on Tuesday in Casablanca, just days after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghana.
The Atlas Lionesses, who have already qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as hosts, were unable to build on their momentum in their latest friendly at the Père Jégo Stadium.
Head coach Jorge Vilda made several changes to his starting lineup compared to the match against Ghana.
Hind Hasnaoui replaced Fatima El Jebraoui in goal, while Djennah Cherif came in for Hanane Aït El Haj.
In attack, Sakina Ouzraoui and Fatima Tagnaout were introduced in place of Rania Boutiebi and Imane Saoud.
Early lead for Haiti, swift response from Morocco
Haiti opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a well-executed counterattack.
A long pass down the right flank released Sherly Jeudy, who outran her Moroccan markers before delivering a precise cut-back to Nérilia Mondésir.
The Haitian forward made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball past Hasnaoui to give her side a 1-0 lead.
Morocco, however, responded almost immediately. Just four minutes after conceding, the hosts equalized in spectacular fashion.
Awarded a free kick from around 20 yards out, team captain Ghizlane Chebbak curled a superb shot into the top corner, leaving the Haitian goalkeeper with no chance.
The goal provided Morocco with a much-needed boost heading into the break.
Chances but no breakthrough
The second half saw both teams create opportunities, but neither could find a decisive goal.
Haiti came close with a quick counterattack that led to a powerful shot inside the box, only for Hasnaoui to produce a crucial save.
Moments later, Morocco threatened through Ibtissam Jraidi, whose curling effort from the left was comfortably gathered by the Haitian goalkeeper.
While the draw is not a major setback, Morocco’s performance highlighted areas that need improvement ahead of the 2026 Women’s AFCON.
With just over a year remaining before the tournament takes place on home soil, the Atlas Lionesses will be looking to refine their tactics and build stronger consistency in upcoming fixtures.
