French-Ivorian defender Wesley Fofana is expected to be on the bench for Chelsea when they take on Southampton in the Premier League.
The Blues, who succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa will play host to the Saints at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
However, Fofana, who has been out of action since December 2024 is expected to make Chelsea’s squad for the much-anticipated clash.
The 24-year-old picked up a hamstring injury when his side defeated Aston Villa 3-0 in the Premier League.
Chelsea opted to recall Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace as cover for Fofana. With the Englishman currently contending with a minor injury that will see him miss the game, Fofana could be drafted into the matchday squad.
Fofana’s return would provide a boost for Chelsea, who have looked more fragile defensively in his absence. Chelsea are currently seventh in the Premier League but only one point off fourth-placed Manchester City.
