Steve Mandanda has hailed the positive impact of Habib Beye at Stade Rennais, praising the fresh energy and clarity the Senegalese coach has brought to the club since his appointment.

At 39, Mandanda remains a key figure in the Rennes squad despite stepping back from his starting role following the arrival of Brice Samba.

In an interview with RMC Sport, the veteran goalkeeper shared his thoughts on Beye’s managerial approach and the shift in dynamics since his arrival at the helm.

Mandanda, who previously shared the pitch with Beye during their time at Marseille, spoke openly about their renewed working relationship.

“We talked,” Mandanda revealed. “The small age gap between us makes it easier to communicate. His speech is clear and simple.”

Though his on-field contributions have lessened, Mandanda emphasized his continued commitment to the club, now offering his experience and leadership from the sidelines.

“I help in a different way now,” he explained, embracing his mentorship role as Rennes navigates a new chapter under Beye’s guidance.

A New Era Under Beye

Habib Beye, who stepped into the managerial role at Stade Rennais, has quickly left his mark, steering the team to two wins in his first three Ligue 1 matches.

Mandanda credits Beye’s approach for reinvigorating the squad, particularly through revamped training sessions and an emphasis on high-intensity play.

“With his staff, they arrived with a lot of freshness and determination, bringing us confidence,” Mandanda noted.

“Training has more rhythm now. There’s a noticeable intensity that pushes everyone to give more.”

The goalkeeper also highlighted Beye’s strong tactical acumen and deep understanding of Ligue 1, which has helped the squad adapt quickly to his methods.

“He knows football and Ligue 1 very well, which helps the group,” Mandanda added. “He’s a frank person with very good ideas.”

This fresh perspective has been welcomed by the players, who have responded positively to the new strategies.

Mandanda pointed out that the improved results on the pitch have lifted spirits within the camp. “Good performances always boost the atmosphere,” he said. “We’re seeing that right now.”

Mandanda’s Evolving Role

Although he now finds himself on the bench more often, Mandanda has embraced his evolving role within the squad.

Having enjoyed a long and distinguished career, including over a decade at Marseille and 35 caps for France, he understands the importance of experience in guiding younger players.

“I’m still here for the team,” Mandanda affirmed. “Whether I’m on the pitch or supporting from the sidelines, my focus remains the same—helping the club succeed.”

His relationship with Brice Samba, who has taken over the starting goalkeeper position, reflects this team-first mentality.

Rather than view the change as a setback, Mandanda sees it as an opportunity to foster a strong goalkeeping unit and ensure Rennes remains competitive.

Beye’s Growing Influence

For Habib Beye, the early stages of his tenure at Rennes have been promising. Known for his sharp analysis as a football pundit before stepping fully into management, Beye’s hands-on approach and clear communication style have resonated with the players.

His success in quickly establishing a cohesive strategy has not gone unnoticed. Mandanda believes Beye’s leadership is setting Rennes on a positive trajectory.

“He brings energy and clarity,” Mandanda said. “That’s exactly what we needed.”

With Beye at the helm and seasoned figures like Mandanda providing crucial support behind the scenes, Stade Rennais looks poised to push forward in Ligue 1.

As the team builds momentum, the combination of fresh ideas and veteran experience could be the key to unlocking further success this season.
