Upamecano, who has been at Bayern since his move from Leipzig in 2021, is seen as an essential player for the present and the future of the club. Upamecano’s current deal runs until 2026, and this season, he’s been a fixture in the team, featuring in 29 matches and scoring twice. The French defender made his competitive debut on the opening day of the 2021-22 Bundesliga season, starting in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach. His first goal for Bayern came later that year in a dominant 4–0 win over VfL Wolfsburg, where he netted with a header from a Thomas Müller assist.
