Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed new Manchester City signing Omar Marmoush as “special” after the Egyptian forward netted a stunning hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.
Marmoush, who joined Manchester City in January for €75 million from German side Eintracht Frankfurt. The versatile forward has shown flashes of brilliance, but it was his performance at the Etihad that truly announced his arrival.
He opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a calm lob over goalkeeper Martin Dubravka before adding a second with a precise strike into the bottom corner. His hat-trick was sealed after cutting in from the left to smash home a cross from Savinho.
Wenger, speaking on beIN Sports, said: “What I liked is Marmoush; he’s mobile and looks powerful in his runs. And mentally, he’s not scared of anybody. He had special talent with Frankfurt, and while his early games with City were disappointing, you could already feel his comfort yesterday.”
