England-born striker of Nigerian descent, Chuba Akpom was in action for Lille on Sunday evening, helping the team to secure a vital 2-0 victory against Stade Rennais in the French Ligue 1.
The on-loan Ajax forward equalised with a fine strike inside the box in the 86th minute after Mitchel Bakker assisted him.
Before his goal, Chuba Akpom had missed a penalty kick in the first half. He stepped up from 12 yards in the 44th minute but failed the test. On that occasion, Stade Rennais’s goalkeeper Brice Samba pulled off a superb save.
In addition to Chuba Akpom’s decisive goal in the second half, Nabil Bentaleb also equalised in the 80th minute to contribute to the victory.
The win means Lille are 5th in the French Ligue 1 after 22 games in the ongoing 2024/25 season.
For Chuba Akpom, he is gradually regaining his confidence and form in front of goal.
He has two goals in the French Ligue 1 and will be hoping to score more in the upcoming games.
