Didier Drogba, the Ivory Coast football star, has become the new sensation at Galatasaray. After a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) campaign with Ivory Coast, Drogba was welcomed as a hero by his new team in Turkey.
Drogba made an interesting change in his choice of jersey number. Throughout his career, he had worn the number 11 jersey, but at Galatasaray, he revealed that he would be wearing the number 12 jersey. This departure from his usual number 11 is notable, as it is the first time since his time at Guingamp that Drogba has opted for a number other than 11. During his time at Guingamp, he wore the number 17 jersey.
Galatasaray reportedly paid 10 million euros for Drogba’s transfer, with an additional bonus of 15,000 euros per match played. The move to Galatasaray also opens the possibility for Drogba to participate in the UEFA Champions League, an event he won in 2012 with Chelsea. Galatasaray is set to face German club Schalke 04 in the round of 16.
