As the winter transfer window looms, rumors swirl in English football circles regarding the potential return of striker Iliman Ndiaye to Sheffield United, his former club. The speculation has gained momentum due to Ndiaye’s challenging start at Olympique de Marseille (OM) this season.
Ndiaye, who secured the Championship Player of the Season title in the previous campaign, has struggled to replicate his success at OM. With only one goal and three assists in 15 Ligue 1 matches, the forward has not lived up to the expectations set by OM supporters since his arrival on July 30.
Despite playing eight European matches, Ndiaye has been unable to make a significant impact, with his solitary goal coming after featuring in 10 matches across all competitions.
Regis Bogeart, the assistant to Ndiaye’s National Team coach, provided insightful analysis, noting the challenges faced by the young player in adapting to a new environment.
Bogeart stated, “Iliman can’t free himself yet. He is a very young player who is gradually building his maturity. And there, in the space of six months, everything fell on his head.”
Addressing the mounting speculation surrounding Ndiaye’s potential return to Sheffield United, currently languishing in the 20th position in the Premier League, the Blades’ manager, Chris Wilder, sought to temper the excitement.
Wilder emphasized his focus on the current squad, expressing reluctance to engage in transfer discussions.
“I’m not ready to talk about anyone; I focus on the group we have. Everyone knows his story here and me more… He’s a fabulous player, an exceptional player. But in terms of speculation, I don’t want to get involved in that,” said Wilder.
Contrary to the rumors, sources suggest that Ndiaye has affirmed his commitment to staying at Marseille, dispelling any notions of an imminent departure from the club. Despite external pressures and expectations, the young striker appears resolute in his desire to continue contributing to Marseille’s campaign.
