Loïc Lapoussin’s arrival at Saint-Trond VV has been met with optimism, as head coach Felice Mazzù highlighted the Malagasy midfielder’s transformation and growing influence on the pitch.

Having reunited with Mazzù, whom he previously played under at Union Saint-Gilloise, Lapoussin appears to be settling well into his new environment.

Despite past criticisms regarding his discipline, his current coach offers a different perspective.

Speaking to Sudinfo, Mazzù defended his player, stating: “I know him by heart.

He is an extraordinary and charming boy, no matter what has been said about him.

He is positive, perhaps a little too in love with life in the eyes of some, but he is there, he trains, and he performs.”

Lapoussin made an immediate impact in his debut against Dender, with Mazzù pointing out his impressive statistics despite his recent lack of game time.

“He was one of the best on the pitch and had the best data readings, despite two months without playing,” the coach noted.

A Maturing Player

Mazzù also acknowledged the evolution of Lapoussin’s approach to the game, attributing it to experience gained over time.

“At Union, he was 23 or 24 years old; now he’s 28. He has gained experience and maturity. He is less carefree and more aware of his role,” Mazzù explained.

The Belgian coach, known for his supportive approach, reaffirmed his belief in giving players the opportunity to develop.

“Everyone has the right to a second chance. With my players, I favour humanity over punishment,” he said, underlining his commitment to helping Lapoussin rediscover his best form.

With a fresh start at Saint-Trond and a coach who believes in his abilities, Lapoussin has the chance to revive his career and make a lasting impact in the Belgian Pro League.
