Jong Ajax secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Excelsior in an action-packed Eerste Divisie clash at Sportpark De Toekomst.
Despite trailing at halftime, the hosts mounted an impressive second-half comeback, with Dutch-Ghanaian forward Don-Angelo Konadu playing a key role.
Excelsior took an early lead in the 22nd minute when Ryan van de Pavert inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Jong Ajax responded after the break with Ahmetcan Kaplan rifling in a low strike in the 53rd minute, before Rayane Bounida curled home a brilliant effort four minutes later to put the hosts ahead.
Excelsior refused to back down, as Ilias Bronkhorst restored parity in the 60th minute. But it was Konadu, introduced at halftime, who provided the spark in the 81st minute, setting up Skye Vink, who slotted home the winner with a precise finish.
Jong Ajax’s resilience earned them a vital win, closing the head-to-head gap against Excelsior to three wins to six. They now shift focus to their upcoming fixture against ADO Den Haag on February 14.
