Olympique Lyonnais and Everton have reached an agreement to terminate the loan of Gambian midfielder Francis Gomez Tambadou, bringing his spell in France to an early end.
The 18-year-old, who initially joined Lyon for the 2024/25 season, will now return to England to continue his development with Everton’s academy.
Tambadou arrived at Lyon last summer on loan after signing with Everton from Nigerian side Sporting Supreme.
The move was intended to provide him with valuable experience in a new environment, but his time in Ligue 1 has been cut short.
Everton confirmed his return in an official statement, marking the end of his brief stint in France well before the season’s conclusion.
Return to Everton’s academy
With his loan spell over, Tambadou will now resume training at Finch Farm, Everton’s academy base.
The club has not provided specific reasons for the termination, but it appears Everton prefers to oversee his progress directly.
His next steps remain uncertain. The Toffees may integrate him into their U21 setup or even the senior squad, depending on his development.
Alternatively, another loan move could be on the horizon to ensure he gains competitive playing time.
For now, Tambadou’s return raises questions about his immediate future, but Everton will be keen to maximize the potential of the promising young midfielder.
