Togo coach Nibombé Daré stresses hope in World Cup qualifiers despite early setbacks

Togo head coach Nibombé Daré has maintained a determined outlook ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, asserting that the team’s campaign is far from over despite their modest standing with only three points in fourth place.

At a recent press conference, Daré underlined the necessity for the team to approach every upcoming fixture with maximum intensity.

He pointed out that their immediate challenges against Mauritania and Senegal are critical to improving their current position.

“Mathematically, we are not eliminated yet,” he declared, emphasizing the need for every match to be played at full throttle.

“Our current standings might not look promising, but we will strive to turn that around with victories and strong performances.

If that effort paves the way to World Cup qualification, then our work will have been worth it.

Moreover, we intend to use these games to offer valuable opportunities to players who have not yet had their fair share of minutes.”

Daré’s comments come on the back of a hard-fought win against Equatorial Guinea, a result that has injected a degree of optimism into the squad despite their failure to secure a place at the African Cup of Nations.

“We did not qualify for AFCON, but our victory against Equatorial Guinea shows that we can compete,” he added.

“That win is something we want to build on as we prepare for the next rounds of qualifiers. It is a sign that our potential is real, even if the numbers on the board are not yet in our favour.”

The coach’s remarks highlight a broader strategy aimed at keeping Togo’s hopes alive. Daré is not only focusing on immediate results but also on developing a deeper squad rotation, ensuring that emerging talents gain international experience.

This dual approach is critical for a team that finds itself in a challenging group and facing opponents who have consistently performed at a high level.

With the upcoming matches against Mauritania and Senegal, every point becomes vital. Daré is well aware of the pressure mounting on the team and the importance of seizing each opportunity to climb the standings.

He believes that a spirited performance in these fixtures could not only shift their current trajectory but also reenergize the squad for the remaining qualifying campaign.

“We have to play with heart and determination. Every match is a chance to reset the narrative, to prove that we can compete against any side,” Daré explained.

While the group’s dynamics continue to evolve, the coach’s optimism is a key factor in motivating the players. His candid assessment of the situation reveals that, despite a difficult start, Togo is fully committed to pursuing their World Cup dreams.

By insisting on playing every match with unwavering resolve, Daré hopes to instill a fighting spirit that could see the team overcome early setbacks.

The road to the 2026 World Cup is undeniably arduous, and for Togo, every game is a chance to build momentum. With a clear focus on the dual objectives of achieving immediate results and nurturing new talent, Daré’s blueprint for success rests on unity and perseverance.

As the team gears up for their next fixtures, the message is unequivocal: despite current standings, Togo remains in contention, and the journey is far from over.
