Olympique Lyonnais has turned down a second offer from Galatasaray for Angolan international Clinton Mata, despite the Turkish club’s persistent efforts to secure his services before their transfer window closes on February 11.
Galatasaray initially tabled a €5 million bid, which was swiftly rejected by Lyon.
The French club has now also dismissed an improved €8 million proposal, which included enticing personal terms for Mata.
However, Lyon remains firm in its stance, unwilling to part ways with the defender at this stage of the season.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Lyon was particularly displeased with the timing of Galatasaray’s approach.
“OL did not appreciate the interference of the Turkish club in the Gones squad.
They believe the offer could have been made earlier in the transfer window, rather than now when they can no longer sign a replacement,” he explained.
Mata, who had shown interest in a move to the Turkish Super Lig, will now have to wait for another opportunity, as Lyon remains committed to keeping him at the club.
