Ivorian midfielder Seko Fofana agrees deal to join Stade Rennais

Ivorian midfielder, Seko Fofana, is set to return to French Ligue 1, having reached an agreement to join Stade Rennais in a deal worth €20 million.

The move is expected to be officially announced at the start of the winter transfer window.

Fofana, who signed with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League less than two years ago, struggled to adapt to the league. Initially loaned to Al-Ettifaq in hopes of reigniting his form, he failed to impress under the management of Steven Gerrard. Consequently, Al-Nassr decided to offload the midfielder, who is under contract with them until 2026.

Currently in France, Fofana has finalised terms with Stade Rennais, marking his return to Ligue 1. The 28-year-old, an African champion, previously enjoyed a successful stint at RC Lens between 2020 and 2023 before moving to Saudi Arabia for €25 million.

This return to European football represents an opportunity for Fofana to rediscover his form and confidence. Stade Rennais, eager to strengthen their midfield, sees Fofana as a valuable addition who can make an immediate impact.

For Fofana, the move is a chance to rejuvenate his career after a challenging period abroad. Both player and club are optimistic that this new chapter will pave the way for success in the highly competitive French league.
