Ghana’s Bernard Tekpetey sets sights on Saudi Arabia move

Bernard Tekpetey

Ghana forward Bernard Tekpetey has outlined his ambition to play in Saudi Arabia, revealing that the Middle Eastern nation could be his next destination if his Premier League dreams do not materialize.

The 27-year-old has been in exceptional form since moving to Bulgaria in 2020, scoring 41 goals and providing 35 assists for Ludogorets Razgrad across all competitions. His performances in European club competitions have also earned him widespread recognition, making him one of Ghana’s most consistent performers abroad.

In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, Tekpetey shared his plans for the next two years, indicating that his immediate goal is to secure a move to England’s Premier League, which he regards as the “best league in the world.”

“Five years is too long. I am believing in God that in the next two years, I want to be in England, if God permits,” Tekpetey said.

However, the Black Stars forward also acknowledged that securing a move to England might not be guaranteed. As a contingency, he revealed his backup plan: “If it doesn’t happen, I want to go to Saudi Arabia.”

Saudi Arabia has become a major hub for football talent in recent years, with several high-profile players, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, making the move to the Pro League. Tekpetey’s openness to the Saudi Arabian league reflects the growing appeal of the competition, which has become increasingly competitive with large financial incentives.

When asked if financial considerations were a factor in his potential move to Saudi Arabia, Tekpetey didn’t shy away from the reality of modern football. “The money is very necessary,” he admitted, underlining the financial opportunities available in the Gulf region.
