Chelsea have officially promoted Ghanaian duo Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George to the first team, marking a significant milestone for the two players who joined the club as 8-year-olds.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Premier League giants.
The 18-year-olds, who were part of Chelsea’s pre-season squad in the United States this summer, have been training regularly with the senior team. Both have already featured in competitive fixtures this season, appearing in the UEFA Conference League and the EFL Cup.
George signed a long-term contract in the summer, and Acheampong followed suit this week, committing his future to Chelsea with a deal that runs until 2029. Head coach Enzo Maresca praised the pair during a locker room presentation, where teammates applauded as they received personalized locker signs.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, the duo has represented England at youth levels but remains eligible to switch allegiance to Ghana’s Black Stars.
