Germany seems set to secure another promising player eligible for Nigeria, as Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nnamdi Collins nears a potential future with the German national team.
The 20-year-old defender just extended his contract with Frankfurt until 2030, heightening speculation about his international prospects.
Reports from Sky Germany indicate that Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach, is keeping a close eye on Collins.
Should the young talent continue to perform at his current level, he could soon receive his first call-up to the senior squad.
This development poses yet another challenge for Nigeria, which has already seen players like Brentford’s Kevin Schade switch allegiances to Germany under similar circumstances.
Collins joined Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 for a fee of one million euros, gradually making his way into the first team.
After showcasing his abilities with the U21 squad, he debuted in the Bundesliga in April 2024 against Werder Bremen. As his first season progressed, he accumulated two Bundesliga appearances and 16 matches in the Regionalliga.
This season, Collins has solidified his role under coach Dino Toppmöller, participating in 11 matches across competitions, including four in the Europa League and five in the Bundesliga, where he contributed with an assist.
