Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal has expressed determination to compete for the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
The 17-year-old, who aims to achieve major milestones with both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, believes that collective success is crucial for individual recognition.
Yamal, who who was born in Esplugues de Llobregat to a Moroccan father and an Equatorial Guinean mother, emphasized that winning the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona would enhance his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.
“Before I turn 21, my goal is to win the World Cup with Spain, the Champions League, and two more leagues with Barça.
“If I win with Barça, especially the Champions League, I will have a greater chance of contending for the individual trophy that crowns a player’s career: the Ballon d’Or.”
Lamine Yamal made history during the 2022-23 season by becoming the youngest player to debut and score for FC Barcelona, contributing to their La Liga title win.
In the 2023-24 season, he solidified his status as a key player, helping Spain win Euro 2024 and earning individual accolades such as the Kopa Trophy and Golden Boy award.
