CAN 2013: THE RESULTS OF THE FIRST DAYS IN FIGURES

After yesterday’s Tunisia-Algeria match, all sixteen teams participating in the 29th African Cup of Nations (CAN) have played their first match. Here are some statistics from the first day of this initial round:

  • Thirteen (13): The total number of goals scored after the eight matches of the first day.
  • Thirteen (13): The number of players who scored during the first day, including Alain Traoré (Burkina Faso), Emmanuel Emenike (Nigeria), Seydou Keita (Mali), Kwadwo Asamoah and Emmanuel Badu (Ghana), Trésor Mputu and Dieumerci Mbokani (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Collins Abesuma (Zambia), Adane Girma (Ethiopia), Yaya Touré and Gervinho (Ivory Coast), Jonathan Ayité (Togo), and Youssef Msakni (Tunisia).
  • Twenty-five (25): The number of minutes played to score a goal, achieved by the Burkinabé player Alain Traoré, who leads the scorers after the first day.
  • One (01): The number of penalties awarded after the eight matches. The penalty was given in the Zambia-Ethiopia match in favor of the Antelope Walya. However, Saladin Said (Ethiopia) failed to convert it.
