Madame Rebaï Fairouz has been elected president of the Bouira Wilaya Football League (LWFB) with a decisive 24 votes out of 30, following a transparent electoral process conducted in accordance with the regulations. The election, held on Wednesday morning in Bouira, marked the culmination of a contentious period, during which attempts to block the process were firmly thwarted.
Madame Soleil, a vocal opponent of the election, had sought to halt the proceedings by appealing to FIFA and issuing thinly veiled threats.
However, her efforts were unsuccessful, as compliance with established rules prevailed. The Appeals Commission had earlier rejected the candidacies of Noureddine Bakiri and Fodil Kahlal.
Bakiri was excluded from the General Assembly, while Kahlal, though an expert, failed to meet the required criteria.
The result left Madame Soleil unable to exert the influence she is reportedly known for in other regions.
Despite her opposition, the election proceeded without incident, and the league adhered strictly to its regulations, ensuring a fair outcome.
Outgoing president Kamel Khedis, whose bid for re-election was disqualified due to a lack of a university degree as mandated by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), expressed no resentment.
Instead, he commended the orderly manner in which the election was conducted. “The main thing is that the elections were not blocked,” Khedis stated.
“As far as I am concerned, I could not go against the directives of the FAF and the DJS.”
The newly elected league office includes Benagdi Massinissa and Dr. Kouider Noureddine as experts, Merzoug Abdallah and Djenidi Abdelhamid representing clubs, and Melouk Youba as the representative for referees. The representative for women’s football will be announced at a later date.
Madame Rebaï Fairouz’s victory signals a new chapter for the LWFB. Her election was hailed as a triumph of due process over disruption, reinforcing the importance of transparency and adherence to regulations in Algerian football governance.
This outcome stands as a testament to the resolve of the league to maintain integrity in its operations, even amid attempts to derail its processes. Madame Rebaï Fairouz now takes the helm, entrusted with steering the league forward.
