The Nigeria-based Super Eagles have intensified their training ahead of their crucial 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
A squad of 30 players is currently in camp in Ikenne, Ogun State, undergoing rigorous twice-daily training sessions.
The highly anticipated first leg of the encounter is set for Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana. The return leg will follow six days later on Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.
Ghana has historically been a stumbling block for Nigeria in CHAN qualifiers. In 2009, the Black Galaxies staged a remarkable comeback, overturning a 2-0 halftime deficit in Accra to win 3-2. The return leg in Calabar ended in a stalemate. More recently, in the 2023 edition, Ghana secured qualification after a dramatic penalty shootout victory in Abuja, following a 2-0 win in Cape Coast and a 2-0 loss in Abuja.
Nigeria will be keen to rewrite history this time, while Ghana aims to maintain their dominance in this regional rivalry.
Both teams will look to secure a place in the tournament, scheduled to be held in Côte d’Ivoire, and assert their supremacy in West African football.
