West Ham forward Michail Antonio has praised Sadio Mané’s contributions to Liverpool, describing the Senegalese star as “unplayable” during his time at the club.
Antonio expressed his belief that Liverpool and its fans failed to fully appreciate the forward’s influence on the team’s success.
The Senegalese was influential in the Reds winning UEFA Champions League title in 2019, one Premier League title in 2020, which ended a 30-year league title drought for Liverpool, and one FA Cup in 2022.
“Mané, for me, was unplayable,” Antonio told Joy Sports. “I feel like he was under-appreciated at Liverpool. I don’t think the club or even the fans fully understood the quality he brought and what he did for the team.”
Antonio contrasted Mané’s impact with that of Mohamed Salah, acknowledging Salah’s prolific goal-scoring but emphasizing Mané’s all-round contributions.
“Obviously, Salah was unbelievable, and he still is with the amount of goals he scores. But what Mané did for the team was incredible. He brought everyone together—his goals, assists, and work rate were unmatched,” he stated.
Antonio highlighted Mané’s leadership and influence on the pitch, asserting that history would recognize his importance.
“Mané’s value went beyond goals. He was the engine, the leader, and the player who made everyone around him better,” he concluded.
Sadio Mane left Liverpool in 2022 and had a stint at Bayern Munich before now moving to Al Nassr.
