UPDF triumph over BUL as Police deepen Wakiso Giants’ woes
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) secured a commanding 2-0 victory against BUL FC at Lugazi, while Police FC edged Wakiso Giants 2-1 in Kavumba during Wednesday’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League action.
Christopher Kamagu and Brian Kalumba provided the goals for UPDF, who maintained their dominance over BUL, having completed a league double against them last season.
For Police, Isaac Ogwang and Brian James Obedi found the net to deliver a much-needed win, further compounding Wakiso Giants’ struggles.
Commanding Display from UPDF
At BUL’s home ground in Lugazi, UPDF opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Kamagu.
Released by a precise pass from Ronald Kayondo, Kamagu capitalized on a shaky BUL defence, sprinting down the right flank before slotting home the opener.
Despite BUL’s attempts to find an equalizer, their lack of cutting edge in attack left them vulnerable.
In the closing stages, UPDF sealed the result with an impressive goal from Kalumba. Set up by Shakibu Mayanja, who weaved through BUL’s defence following a clever short corner routine, Kalumba calmly converted to secure all three points.
This marked UPDF’s fourth win in 11 matches, pushing them to sixth place on the league table with 16 points, six behind leaders NEC.
The victory was a welcome response after their 4-0 loss to Kitara and a 2-2 draw against Police in their previous outings.
BUL’s Winless Run Continues
BUL’s struggles persisted with this latest setback, their third loss in 11 games. Despite having drawn five matches, they remain winless in their last four league outings.
The result leaves them ninth on the table with 14 points, reflecting an underwhelming campaign so far.
Police Edge Wakiso in Kavumba
In Kavumba, Police FC ended their streak of three consecutive draws with a hard-fought win over Wakiso Giants. Ogwang opened the scoring for the Cops, only for Abdul Ssemakula to briefly level for Wakiso.
However, Obedi restored Police’s lead in the second half, ensuring they claimed maximum points.
The victory lifts Police to fourth place on the table with 16 points, having secured three wins, seven draws, and one loss this season.
For Wakiso Giants, the defeat extended their winless run to eight matches.
With just two wins from 11 games, the Purple Sharks now sit precariously above the relegation zone, holding nine points—only one clear of the bottom three.
Matchday 11 Action Continues
The StarTimes Uganda Premier League resumes on Thursday with Mbarara City hosting Maroons at Kakyeka Stadium, while table-toppers NEC travel to Nakivubo to face URA.
