Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has revealed that the team was not pleased with former club legend Jamie Carragher’s recent criticism of star forward Mohamed Salah.

Carragher had publicly commented on Salah’s ongoing contract saga, calling the player’s actions and statements “selfish.”

Speaking on CBS Sports after Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Real Madrid, Carragher expressed his frustration over Salah’s contract situation, with the Egyptian forward set to leave at the end of the season if no renewal is agreed.

“Of course, there’s been discussions,” Carragher said, addressing the stalemate between Salah and Liverpool. “There’s obviously a big difference in valuation—how Salah and his agent see themselves in terms of contract length—and how Liverpool view it.

“So, the reason Liverpool wouldn’t have offered a contract yet is because Mo Salah will turn it down. They’re still in talks, and I’m desperate for them to meet in the middle.”

However, Carragher didn’t hold back his disappointment in Salah, particularly regarding the timing of public comments about his future.

“I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night… Liverpool have Real Madrid in midweek and Manchester City next weekend. That’s the story for Liverpool right now.

“If he continues to put comments out, or if his agent keeps posting cryptic tweets, that’s selfish. That’s thinking about themselves and not the football club,” Carragher asserted.

His remarks didn’t sit well with the Liverpool squad, with Robertson confirming the team discussed Carragher’s comments in the dressing room.

“He’s been getting a bit of stick in the dressing room this week, that’s for sure!” Robertson said, indicating that the squad felt Carragher’s criticism of Salah was unnecessary and ill-timed.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Salah has been linked with a possible move to Saudi should he leave Liverpool at the end of his contract.
