The opening match of the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), featuring South Africa and Cape Verde, will be officiated by Algerian referee Djamel Haimoudi. Haimoudi, who was voted the best referee of the year in 2012 at the Glo-CAF Awards, has experience in officiating high-profile matches, including the opening match of the Club World Cup in Japan. He is also on the FIFA list for the upcoming World Cup.
