Cameroon head coach Marc Brys is seeking a contract extension after leading the Indomitable Lions to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Brys’ agent, Ivo Chi, has publicly called for the Belgian’s deal to be extended through 2029, sparking potential tensions within the country’s football leadership.
Speaking to Actu Cameroun, Chi praised Brys’ achievements since his appointment in April and underscored the need for long-term commitment.
“We must extend Marc Brys’ contract until 2029. His exceptional leadership and vision are invaluable for the future! Mission accomplished! Well done coach, the work continues.
Maybe it’s time we started thinking about extending your contract,” he stated.
Stellar Start for Brys
Brys’ tenure has been nothing short of remarkable. Under his guidance, Cameroon has maintained an unbeaten streak of eight matches, securing five victories and three draws.
This performance ensured the Indomitable Lions’ place in the AFCON 2025, a feat that has won him significant admiration among fans and stakeholders alike.
His leadership style and strategic approach have been credited with revitalizing the team, making him a popular figure within Cameroon’s footballing circles.
Tensions with the Authorities?
While Brys’ agent has been vocal about securing the coach’s future, the call for an extension may not sit well with everyone, particularly within the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
The organization, led by legendary striker Samuel Eto’o, has yet to respond to the request, but reports suggest that such public pressure could complicate negotiations.
