Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 Premier League season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The Leicester City player sustained the injury during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola last week.
Leicester City manager Steve Cooper confirmed the extent of the injury, describing it as a significant setback for the 20-year-old and the club.
It’s not good; it’s a serious injury,” Cooper said. “He’s a young player, and an ACL injury can be quite common in football, but it’s still a major blow.
For it to happen at this stage of his career is tough for him and us.
Cooper assured that the club would provide Issahaku with full support during his recovery.
We’ll do everything to ensure his rehabilitation is smooth and productive.
We believe he’ll come back stronger as a player and a person,” Cooper added.
The injury sidelines Issahaku from Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March 2025.
It also halts his progress in his debut Premier League season, where his performances had shown significant promise.
Issahaku’s absence will be keenly felt, both for Leicester City and Ghana’s national team, but Cooper remains optimistic about the player’s resilience.
