Bayer Leverkusen’s star striker, Victor Boniface, is facing a spell on the sidelines following an injury sustained with the Nigerian national team.
The 23-year-old forward returned from international duty with a thigh injury, missing Leverkusen’s Thursday training session, according to Bild. Boniface picked up the injury during Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Monday, with Nigerian media speculating that he could be out for several weeks.
Leverkusen have yet to confirm the severity of the injury, and more information is expected at a press conference on Friday. What is certain, however, is that Boniface will miss the upcoming Bundesliga match against Heidenheim on Saturday.
So far this season, the dynamic striker has been in fine form, netting six goals and providing assists in ten Bundesliga appearances. Leverkusen will be hoping the injury isn’t too severe as they continue their push for the top spots in the league.
