The Ghana men’s national team, the Black Stars, have failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 21 years, with the 2025 tournament set to be held in Morocco next year.
This marks the first time since 2004 that the four-time African champions have missed out on the continental competition, although on that occasion, they finished bottom of a three-team group while managing to win a game.
However, this time, the Black Stars endured a historic low. For the first time in AFCON qualifying history, Ghana failed to win a single match.
Ghana finished rock bottom of Group F, earning just three points from three draws and three defeats in what has been widely regarded as the worst qualification campaign in the nation’s history.
The Black Stars were a staggering eleven points behind group leaders Angola and five points adrift of Sudan, the other nation to secure qualification from the group.
Niger, who secured a victory yesterday, ended up with four points more than Ghana.
The national team’s failure to qualify has sparked widespread outrage among fans and media, with many now calling for the resignation of head coach Otto Addo.
