Mauritania’s national football team head coach, Amir Abdo, has unveiled his squad for their upcoming fixtures against Botswana and Cape Verde, part of the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Abdo’s list notably includes three players currently plying their trade in Morocco’s professional league.
Among those called up are Hassan Ahoubib, a key defender for the Royal Army club, forward Mohsen Badda of Raja Casablanca, and Sidi Bouna Ammar, who plays midfield for Wydad Casablanca.
These players are expected to reinforce the “Al Mourabitounes” squad as they aim to secure a spot in the AFCON finals.
Mauritania’s campaign resumes with a match against Botswana on November 15, followed by a clash with Cape Verde on November 19.
Both matches are critical for Mauritania’s qualification aspirations as they compete to solidify their standing in the continental tournament.
With this diverse selection of talent, including standout performers from Morocco’s league, Coach Abdo aims to build a squad capable of rising to the challenge in the decisive rounds of qualification.
Mauritania’s quest for AFCON success is bolstered by the experience and form of these professional players, reflecting the growing significance of regional partnerships and talent exchange within African football.
Observers and fans alike will be watching keenly to see if Mauritania can leverage this blend of local and international expertise to secure their place among Africa’s elite in the upcoming tournament.
