Emmanuel Antwi earns first Black Stars call-up, hails It as a “Dream Come True”

Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has described his first call-up to Ghana’s national football team as a “dream come true” after being named to the Black Stars’ 25-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

The 23-year-old midfielder has shown considerable skill and determination since joining Asante Kotoko, the “Porcupine Warriors,” in July.

Following a challenging season with his former club, Accra Great Olympics, which ended in relegation from the Ghana Premier League, Antwi’s rise has been particularly rewarding.

His standout performances at Kotoko quickly drew attention, eventually securing him a spot in the national squad for the first time.

“I have been waiting for this opportunity for a very long time, and it’s truly a dream come true,” Antwi told reporters. “This call-up is not only a personal milestone but also shows I made the right decision by joining Asante Kotoko.

The support and competition here have pushed me to grow, and now I feel ready to give my best for the Black Stars.”

Since arriving at Kotoko, Antwi has demonstrated resilience and versatility in the midfield, quickly establishing himself as an integral part of the team.

His performances on the field, marked by strong tackles, precise passing, and strategic awareness, have resonated with fans and coaches alike.

His contributions to the team helped raise his profile, ultimately catching the attention of Ghana’s national selectors as they prepared to strengthen their squad ahead of the AFCON qualifiers.

The call-up has sparked celebration among fans of Asante Kotoko, who see Antwi’s success as a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing talent capable of making an impact at the highest level.

For Antwi, this call to represent Ghana on the international stage symbolizes the culmination of years of hard work and determination.

Many in the Kotoko fan base believe that his success reflects the club’s ethos and ability to develop players for both domestic and international success.

As the Black Stars gear up for their qualifying matches, Antwi’s selection adds both depth and youthful energy to the squad.

Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, will rely on his midfield strength and defensive capabilities to bolster their lineup as they strive to secure a place in the AFCON 2025 tournament.

The team’s head coach, Chris Hughton, has emphasized the importance of a balanced squad, and Antwi’s energy and commitment to the game could prove vital as Ghana faces Angola and Niger in two key fixtures.

Antwi’s journey to the national team is seen as a source of inspiration for young players across Ghana.

His story—marked by resilience, skill, and a determination to succeed—serves as a reminder of the pathways to success within Ghanaian football.
