Didier Gomes Da Rosa, head coach of the Botswana national team, has resigned from his position despite guiding the team to two impressive consecutive victories over Cape Verde in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers.

His decision was announced in an emotional letter addressed to the Botswana Football Association (BFA), his team, staff, and the entire nation.

The Zebras recorded 1-0 victories over Cape Verde in their matchday three and four fixtures in Praia and Francistown on Thursday and Tuesday, respectively.

Gomes expressed deep sadness in leaving his role but extended his sincere gratitude to the players, staff, and BFA employees who supported him during his tenure.

He specifically thanked President Maclean Letshwiti for his leadership, the fans, and the broader Botswana community for embracing him throughout his stay in the country.

He mentioned the warmth he felt living in Botswana and described the nation as a “wonderful sport and human adventure.”

As he departs, Gomes assures the country that he will remain a dedicated supporter of the Zebras and the Mares, Botswana’s men’s and women’s national teams, respectively.

His heartfelt farewell ended with a blessing for the people of Botswana, affirming his love and respect for the nation, as he wrote, “KE A LE RATA BOTSWANA,” meaning “I love you, Botswana.”

Despite the success, his resignation leaves a void in the team’s leadership as they continue their AFCON 2025 campaign.
