The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an investigation into the unfortunate treatment of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, who were stranded at a Libyan airport.
According to a CAF statement, the team and their technical staff were left in distress for over 15 hours after being instructed to land at a different airport by Libyan authorities.
CAF has expressed concern over the situation, noting that they are working closely with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities to understand the details of what transpired.
The organization stated, “The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions.”
CAF has referred the matter to its disciplinary board for further investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against any parties found guilty of violating CAF statutes.
This incident comes as Nigeria continues its campaign in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, with the Super Eagles being in Libya for their return leg.
CAF remains committed to ensuring that such situations do not affect teams participating in its competitions, promising swift resolution.
