Newly minted Moroccan international Osame Sahraoui has expressed his pride and excitement at representing the Atlas Lions. The LOSC Lille winger, who recently switched his international allegiance from Norway to Morocco, shared his thoughts on joining the national team during an interview with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
“Since I arrived at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, I knew I had made the right decision,” Sahraoui said. “It’s been an incredible experience for me.”
Sahraoui’s move to the Moroccan national team comes after a brief stint with Norway’s youth teams. His decision to represent the country of his heritage has been met with enthusiasm from Moroccan fans and the national team’s coaching staff.
The player, now set to make his debut in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers, spoke highly of the team’s atmosphere and his discussions with the coach.
“I was incredibly proud when the coach contacted me,” he added. “I immediately connected with his philosophy, and it felt like the right choice.
It’s an exceptional feeling to represent my country. Morocco has a great team with incredible players, and the atmosphere in the squad is fantastic.
I’m determined to give my best on and off the pitch. We have two important games ahead, and our goal is to win.”
Sahraoui will face his first real test with Morocco in their double-header against the Central African Republic as part of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The matches mark a significant moment in the 22-year-old’s career, as he steps onto the international stage for Morocco.
This season, Sahraoui has been a consistent performer for Lille, making 13 appearances across all competitions and providing three assists.
His strong form and technical abilities have earned him a place in Morocco’s squad, and he is eager to contribute to the team’s efforts to secure qualification for the continental tournament.
Sahraoui’s decision to switch allegiances reflects the growing trend of dual-nationality players opting to represent their countries of heritage.
The Moroccan Football Federation has successfully attracted several high-profile players in recent years, strengthening the national squad’s depth and international presence.
As Sahraoui prepares for his debut, expectations are high that his flair and creativity will bring an added dimension to the Atlas Lions as they continue their push toward AFCON 2025 qualification.
The upcoming matches will offer the young winger an opportunity to cement his place in the squad and make an immediate impact for Morocco.
