Kaizer Chiefs have expressed interest in acquiring Tumisang Orebonye from AS FAR, with the Botswana international showing openness to the move, provided the financial terms are favorable. The 28-year-old center forward, who joined the Moroccan side in January 2024, is keen to ensure any potential transfer benefits his future beyond football.
Orebonye, who arrived at AS FAR on a free transfer following his departure from USM Alger in January 2023, is now linked with a possible switch to the South African giants.
Kaizer Chiefs, currently in pre-season training in Turkey, have not yet made a formal offer, but Orebonye has made it clear that financial considerations will play a crucial role in his decision-making process.
“Yes, there have been reports that I would be transferred to the Chiefs in South Africa and that does not pose a problem for me,” Orebonye stated.
His willingness to entertain the move hinges on the financial package, emphasizing the importance of securing a lucrative deal. “If the offer can be good, I don’t see any problem, why I can’t join Chiefs.
Yes I know the coach and I know the team since I come from Botswana. But what is important is the money, if the money is good, I can move to Chiefs,” he added.
Orebonye’s perspective is shaped by his broader career and life goals. At 28, he is mindful of the limited time left in his playing career and the need to plan for his future.
“I am 28 now and I do not want to play until I am 40 just because I have not earned enough money now.
In a few years, when I retire, I should invest in my own business, so moving to South Africa would not be a problem. But as I said, it has to be the right offer because I still have a valid contract here in Morocco,” he explained.
His current contract with AS FAR remains valid, adding another layer of complexity to the potential transfer.
However, Orebonye’s openness to the move signals his readiness to explore new opportunities, provided they align with his financial and career aspirations.
For Kaizer Chiefs, securing Orebonye would be a strategic addition to their squad, bringing in a player with experience in different leagues and a proven track record.
His ability to adapt to new environments and his understanding of the team’s dynamics, given his Botswana roots, make him a valuable target.
As negotiations continue, the focus will be on reaching an agreement that satisfies both parties. For Orebonye, the priority is clear: securing a deal that ensures his financial stability and supports his post-football ambitions.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the goal is to enhance their squad with a forward who can contribute significantly to their success.
This potential transfer could mark a significant step in Orebonye’s career, offering him the chance to compete in South Africa’s top flight while preparing for life beyond the pitch.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether this move materializes, with financial terms likely to be the deciding factor.
