Milo FC has been crowned the Guinean champions for the first time in their history, following a decisive 2-1 victory over Ashanti Golden Boy on the 26th and final day of the 2023-2024 sports season. This victory at the Mbalou Mady Diakité stadium propelled Milo FC to a five-point lead over their closest rivals, Hafia FC, who suffered a 3-1 defeat to AS Kaloum.
Under the guidance of Ismael Kaba, Milo FC secured their historic title with a thrilling performance.
The team, known for their blue and white colors, celebrated a landmark victory with goals from Abdoulaye Yonta Camara in the 35th and 49th minutes.
Camara, the championship’s top scorer, played a pivotal role throughout the season, netting his 20th and 21st goals in this decisive match.
Despite a late goal from Ashanti Golden Boy’s Madani Diarra in the 88th minute, Milo FC’s triumph was sealed.
Milo FC’s remarkable season, marked by 16 wins, 5 draws, and 5 defeats, culminated in their first-ever league title.
This achievement also earned them a spot in the African Champions League, much to the dismay of their nearest competitors, Hafia FC.
Hafia FC, who were hopeful of clinching their 17th Guinean champion title, faced disappointment as they were defeated 3-1 by AS Kaloum.
The match, held at Hafia’s home ground, saw AS Kaloum’s Amadou Mansaré score twice in the 12th and 28th minutes, with Koffi Faouzi adding a third in the 75th minute.
Hafia’s lone goal by the legendary Babata was not enough to turn the tide. Coached by Casimir Jagiello, Hafia FC ended the season second in the standings with 48 points, securing a place in the CAF Cup preliminaries.
The final day of the season saw a mix of results across the league. Milo FC’s 2-1 win over Ashanti Golden Boy was complemented by AS Kaloum’s 3-1 victory over Hafia FC.
Other matches included a goalless draw between Wakriya AC and FC Sequence, a 2-0 win for SOAR Academy over CI Kamsar, and a 2-1 victory for Horoya AC against Gangan FC. ASM Sangaredi also triumphed with a 2-0 win over Renaissance FC.
Milo FC’s historic league title marks a significant milestone for the club and sets a new benchmark in Guinean football.
Their successful season, characterized by consistent performances and standout contributions from players like Abdoulaye Yonta Camara, has earned them a place in the annals of Guinean sports history.
Meanwhile, Hafia FC, despite their storied past and efforts this season, will have to regroup and look ahead to their participation in the CAF Cup preliminaries.
The 2023-2024 Ligue 1 season will be remembered for Milo FC’s rise to the top, showcasing the unpredictability and excitement that football fans cherish.
