The board of directors of Wydad Athletic Club has confirmed the resignation of Abdelmajid Bernaki from his position as president of the board. During the meeting held on Sunday at 6 PM at the Haj Mohamed Benjelloun complex, the board also decided to reject the resignations of Mehdi Al-Zouat, president of the handball branch, and board members Hicham Mallaakh, Mustafa Malouki, and Abdullah Benani.
Regarding the football division of Wydad, the meeting concluded that, “To avoid any delays in preparing for the upcoming season, Hicham Ayat Mana has been appointed as interim president of the football division during this transitional period until the general assemblies can be organized to elect a new president and board.”
The board of directors explained that this decision was made following consultations with various stakeholders who unanimously agreed on Ayat Mana’s expertise and willingness to contribute to the success of this phase, ensuring no time is wasted.
They emphasized that all candidates have an equal chance to compete for the presidency of Wydad Athletic Club.
In terms of organizational structure and the election of a new president, the board stated that according to the legal provisions outlined in the club’s bylaws regarding vacancies, the remaining board members will assume responsibility under the supervision of Idris Hasa, the first vice-president of the resigning president, until the ordinary electoral general assembly is held as specified in paragraph four of Article 23 of the standard bylaws.
Consequently, the board decided to cancel the general assembly scheduled for July 3, 2023.
Additionally, the board canceled the previously announced opening of candidacy by the former president and scheduled an extraordinary general assembly for July 15, 2024.
This will allow the board to call the assembly according to the legally stipulated formalities to discuss the final acceptance of the president’s resignation and the potential candidacy of new members, given the desire of many to compete for the club’s presidency with various projects and comprehensive lists.
The board’s statement concluded by announcing that an ordinary electoral general assembly will be held on July 24, 2024, with the candidacy period opening according to the formal requirements outlined in paragraph two of Article 23 of the standard bylaws.
