Brentford, the English Premier League side, has announced a major setback as their star player, Bryan Mbeumo, will be sidelined for 12 weeks due to an ankle injury, rendering him unavailable for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Mbeumo, the dynamic Cameroon international, has been a crucial force for Brentford, showcasing his prowess by scoring seven goals and contributing three assists in 15 appearances this season.
The news of his extended absence comes as a blow to both the player and the club, considering his impressive form on the field.
The 22-year-old winger, who initially represented France at the youth level, opted to play for Cameroon in August 2022 following discussions with football legend Samuel Eto’o.
Since his decision, Mbeumo has made significant contributions to the Indomitable Lions, finding the net three times in 14 appearances.
However, the ankle surgery comes at an inopportune moment, coinciding with the AFCON tournament where Cameroon is drawn alongside reigning champions Senegal in Group C.
The tournament kicks off on January 15th, with Cameroon scheduled to face Guinea in Yamoussoukro in their opening match.
The absence of Bryan Mbeumo will undoubtedly be felt by the Cameroonian national team, and fans will anxiously await his recovery to witness his return to the pitch for both Brentford and the Indomitable Lions.
