The Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) has announced the end of their collaboration with senior national team coach Eric Sékou Chelle, effective immediately.

The decision was made unanimously by the Executive Committee in an extraordinary session, with the agreement of the relevant authorities on Thursday.

The decision followed disappointing results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers a few days ago.

Mali suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Ghana at the Stade du Mars in Bamako last week before drawing with a ten-man Madagascar on Tuesday in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Malian Eagles have their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, a daunting task as they have just five points after four matches.

FEMAFOOT expressed gratitude to Sekou Chelle for his efforts in leading the Eagles, the national team of Mali.

The federation also extended their appreciation to the highest authorities, particularly the Department of Sports, for their constant support of the national teams.

This development marks a new chapter for Malian football, and the federation will likely begin searching for a new coach to lead the team forward.

The announcement was signed by Moussa Silvain Diakité, the 1st Vice President of FEMAFOOT, and was made public on Thursday, June 13, 2024, in Bamako, Mali.

With this decision, Mali joins a list of African nations making changes to their coaching staff ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025 qualifiers.
