Lorient Pursues South African Defensive Stalwart Siyabonga Ngezana To Fortity Backline

FC Lorient is reportedly setting its sights on South African central defender Siyabonga Ngezana. The Ligue 1 side currently holds the unfortunate distinction of having the most porous defense, conceding 29 goals in 15 matches.

Following a decisive defeat to Marseille on Sunday, which saw Lorient fall 2-4 at Moustoir, the club finds itself perilously close to the lower echelons of the Ligue 1 standings, currently occupying the 16th position and facing the prospect of play-offs.

In light of this defensive frailty, Lorient’s leadership is exploring options to bolster their backline during the upcoming winter transfer window.

Siyabonga Ngezana emerges as a prime target, currently contracted with Fotbal Club Steaua Bucharest (FCSB), where he has been a fixture in 13 of the team’s 19 Super Liga (Romanian D1) matches since his arrival this summer.

The potential acquisition of the 26-year-old South African defender comes at an estimated cost of six million euros, according to information shared by journalist Eric Ndagijimana.

Notably, FCSB is reportedly open to parting ways with Ngezana, presenting an opportunity for Lorient to shore up their defensive line.

It is worth noting that Ngezana’s former club, the Kaiser Chiefs, is poised to benefit from a 10% resale fee if the prospective agreement materializes, as highlighted by dailymercato.

The negotiations underscore the intricate dynamics of football transfers and the potential impact on various stakeholders involved in the player’s career trajectory.
