Senegalese Football Federation appeals CAF decision on Krépin Diatta’s suspension

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has formally appealed to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to overturn the four-match suspension imposed on Krépin Diatta, citing procedural concerns and disputing the validity of the allegations against the player.

CAF’s disciplinary committee recently announced a four-match suspension for Diatta, with two matches suspended, along with a $10,000 fine.

Additionally, the FSF was fined the same amount in connection with the incident.

According to reports from L’Observateur, the FSF has taken action to challenge the decision, seeking a reversal of the disciplinary measures imposed on Diatta.

Victor Ciss, the general secretary of the FSF, confirmed that the federation has referred the matter to the CAF appeal chamber.

The controversy arose following comments attributed to Diatta after Senegal’s defeat to Ivory Coast in the round of 16 of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

Allegations surfaced that Diatta made critical remarks in the aftermath of the match. However, the player has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that he did not grant any interviews in the locker room following the game.

The FSF’s appeal underscores its commitment to defending the integrity of its players and contesting any perceived injustice.

The federation aims to ensure that due process is followed and that players receive fair treatment in disciplinary proceedings.

This appeal to CAF reflects the FSF’s dedication to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability within African football.

As the process unfolds, the football community awaits CAF’s response, which will ultimately determine the outcome of Diatta’s suspension and the FSF’s fine.
