As Fiorentina braces for the second leg of the Conference League quarter-finals against Viktoria Plzen, Ivorian striker Christian Kouamé has voiced his ambitions for the remainder of the season, expressing a fervent desire to clinch silverware with the Italian side.
In a pre-match press conference held on Wednesday, Kouamé reflected on his personal growth and resilience, attributing it in part to his recent triumph as an African champion with Ivory Coast, despite facing numerous challenges along the way.
“I have grown a lot, I had great satisfaction with the African Cup of Nations won, but I would also like to win something here at Fiorentina.
Last year we played in two finals without winning a trophy,” Kouamé articulated, emphasizing his eagerness to secure success on the domestic front.
The 26-year-old striker, who has amassed 113 appearances for Fiorentina, acknowledges the importance of securing silverware not only for personal validation but also for the benefit of the club as a whole.
“For him, winning a trophy would do the club a lot of good. ‘It would be important not only for me, but also for what I have experienced recently…We will also have to be good at our game, that’s the only way to get there,'” stated the Ivory Coast international, highlighting the collective significance of achieving success on the pitch.
Despite Kouamé’s mixed performance statistics, with only nine goals and 12 assists in four years at Fiorentina, the imminent opportunity to progress to the semi-finals of the Conference League presents a pivotal moment for both the player and the club.
With Fiorentina holding Viktoria Plzen to a goalless draw in the first leg, Kouamé and his teammates are poised to capitalize on home advantage and secure a coveted spot in the next stage of the tournament.
As anticipation mounts for the decisive clash, Kouamé’s aspirations serve as a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence within the Fiorentina camp.
