Togo suffered a setback on Sunday in Lomé during the first leg of the 2nd round of the CAN U20 qualifiers for Senegal 2015, falling 0-2 to Morocco. The blame in the Togolese camp was squarely placed on the refereeing decisions.
Achraf Achaoui broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error from Togo. This allowed Morocco’s Lion Cubs to head into halftime with a one-goal advantage. Shortly after the break, Morocco doubled their lead from the penalty spot, with Nabil Jaadi converting the spot-kick.
The decision to award the penalty further fueled Togolese frustrations, leading to protests against the Tunisian referee, Slim Belkhouas. Much of the remaining match was marred by public dissent aimed at the officiating team, as Togo struggled to find their rhythm on the pitch.
The match concluded with a 0-2 victory for Morocco, setting the stage for an intriguing return leg in two weeks’ time.
