2026 World Cup Qualifiers: ‘We will fight till the end’ – Troost-Ekong ahead of final round of games
Nigeria Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has indicated that the team will fight until the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
After eight rounds in the qualifiers, the Super Eagles are third in Group C, with 11 points, three behind Benin and South Africa in first and second, respectively.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s last two matches in the qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, Troost-Ekong said the team remains optimistic about their chances of qualification.
“We’re optimistic, and we’re always going to fight till the end. We believe, and we’re never going to stop believing, two important games, Friday, the first one, and after that, we’ll get back to Nigeria. Our focus now is on Lesotho,” the Nigerian captain told reporters.
He added, “The boys are in camp, focused, and the spirit is high. It’s been the same for us; we have to win this game. We are very optimistic and focused on the game on Friday.”
Nigeria needs to win the next two matches in the qualifiers to stand any chance of qualifying for the World Cup.
A win alone, however, will not be enough. The Super Eagles are relying on either Benin or South Africa to drop points in their last two matches.
