2026 World Cup qualifiers: South Africa march past Lesotho with commanding win
South Africa made light work of Lesotho with a 3-0 victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the Free State Toyota Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The visitors showed their intent early and never let go of the rhythm.
Mohau Nkota broke the deadlock in the 15th minute with a calm finish after connecting with a precise cross from Aubrey Modiba. That strike gave Bafana Bafana the confidence to control the game, keeping possession and moving the ball with ease while Lesotho struggled to create meaningful chances.
After the break, South Africa pressed higher and stretched their opponents. Lyle Foster doubled the lead in the 63rd minute with a poacher’s finish inside the box. Just four minutes later, Oswin Appollis sealed the win, tucking home after being set up by Foster.
Lesotho’s fans kept their voices alive, but their side could not find a way through. With the win, South Africa sit top of Group C on 16 points after seven games, while Lesotho remain in sixth with six points. South Africa now turn their attention to Nigeria on September 9. Lesotho will play Benin away on September 9th.
