South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, is preparing for a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Friday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
With both teams aiming to strengthen their chances in Group C, the encounter promises to be a stern test for the hosts.
South African winger Oswin Appolis acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing Lesotho as a spirited and determined side.
He noted that their opponents are known for their energetic approach and relentless fighting spirit, which could make the contest even more demanding.
Appolis also highlighted the strong team morale within the Bafana Bafana camp, expressing confidence in the squad’s readiness for the fixture.
He emphasized the importance of staying focused, pointing out that the coaching staff continually reminds the players that South Africa is often seen as a team to beat in the region.
Currently, South Africa occupies second place in Group C with seven points, level with Rwanda, who lead due to their superior head-to-head record.
Benin, in third place, also shares the same points tally, making the competition for the top spot incredibly tight.
Only the group winners will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, while the four best second-placed teams across all groups will have another opportunity through the play-offs.
With high stakes and a determined opponent standing in their way, Bafana Bafana will need to be at their best to claim a vital three points and keep their World Cup dreams alive.
