Cairo International Stadium hosted a pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Egypt and Sierra Leone, ending with a 1-0 victory for Egypt on Tuesday evening.

This match, part of Matchday 6 in CAF Group A, saw Egypt maintain their dominance, reinforcing their lead in the group.

The game’s sole goal came in the first minute of added time in the first half, scored by Zizo, with an assist from Mahmoud Trezeguet, capitalizing on Egypt’s persistent pressure.

Egypt dominated early, creating several scoring opportunities but struggling with finishing until the late first-half breakthrough.

The second half saw similar patterns, with Egypt pressing forward but lacking effectiveness, while Sierra Leone mounted occasional counter-attacks, but Egypt was always alert to stop their attackers from hitting the target. The home crowd’s support was very loud, adding to the atmosphere as Egypt held on for the win.

This result updated Group A standings, with Egypt now on 16 points after 6 matches, solidifying their lead.

Egypt’s next fixture is against Ethiopia on September 1, 2025, home, a rematch following their earlier 2-0 win, offering a chance to secure another 3 points.

Sierra Leone, meanwhile, faces Guinea-Bissau on the same date, away, a crucial match to regain momentum and improve their standing.
