2026 World Cup: Haiti step up preparations with close focus on Morocco at AFCON 2025
Haiti have wasted no time mapping out their preparations for the 2026 World Cup after being drawn into a demanding group alongside Brazil, Morocco and Scotland.
Head coach Sébastien Migné has confirmed he will travel to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to observe future opponents at close range, with particular attention on Morocco.
Migné, said his long experience coaching on the continent has helped him appreciate the evolution of Morocco’s national team.
I worked in Africa for several years, and I closely follow the results of this Moroccan team. They are very strong. Morocco is currently on an eighteen-game winning streak. They have an excellent coach, Walid Regragui, and a very talented squad. There’s a lot of talk about Hakimi, Aguerd, Bounou, and Diaz, but it’s a high-quality, well-rounded team, he explained.
The Haitian coach intends to spend around ten days in Morocco during the tournament, using the period both for analysis and to follow teams he knows well.
I’ll take advantage of my trip to spend about ten days in Morocco during the Africa Cup of Nations, particularly to watch the matches of DR Congo, coached by my friend Sébastien Desabre, but I’ll also take the opportunity to see some of the Atlas Lions play, he said.
Migné believes Morocco’s development since the last World Cup has pushed them into a new competitive tier.
Since the 2022 World Cup, Morocco has reached another level. They are a team capable of dictating the play, as is often the case in Africa, but also of absorbing pressure and striking hard on the counter-attack, as they did during the World Cup in Qatar, he added.
For Haiti, participation in the 2026 World Cup marks a rare opportunity on the global stage, and Migné’s strategy reflects the scale of the challenge ahead.
With Brazil’s pedigree, Scotland’s physicality, and Morocco’s momentum, Haiti face a formidable task — and their preparations are being shaped accordingly.
By tracking their African opponents months in advance, the Haitian staff aim to enter the tournament with detailed insight into one of the group’s most in-form teams.
As the 2025 AFCON approaches, Morocco’s campaign will now carry additional relevance far beyond the continent.
